Business Women: Hard Work & Success + Business Advancement Conference Houston 2016

I would love to start with, “I meet Kiersten on a hot sunny day, as we both sipped margaritas in a Houston Bar” but that wasn’t the case.

I meet Kiersten via Twitter. That is one of the things I love about Social Media; It connects people together. I meet Kiersten one day as she approached me via Twitter to tell me about her Business Advancement Conference. Soon after that, we meet for a coffee and since then we have worked together in a few projects between Kindred Communications and Houston Latina Bloggers.

I could tell from the day I meet her that she was a strong, confident, hard working woman with ambition and dreams, and I made it my mission to help her in any way I could – because business women, have to stick together.

Let’s talk! I asked her. I wanted to write a post that not only informed readers about the conference but also about the woman behind it.

Tell me a little bit about you, How did you get “here”?

I’ve always loved everything about communications, brand management, and marketing. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications and aggressively went after my career. Sometimes I would hold three jobs, just to get experience and learn quickly about my craft. I wanted to combine all my passions and knowledge, so I created my communications firm, Kindred Communications in 2013. I always tell people that my firm is their personal communications department because it is. I help small to medium-sized businesses with all things communications, branding and marketing.

What is the inspiration behind the Business Advancement Conference (BAC)?
Last year, when I wrote my book, “Five Steps to Marketing Success: A Small Business Guide,” I noticed how much businesses really needed when creating and staying in business. That inspired me to create The Business Advancement Conference. Because I noticed that there was a need for businesses/brands to have an environment to learn everything they needed at once.

What can we expect to learn at BAC 2016?
Attendees can expect to learn everything they need for their business or brand. No matter what stage they are in with their business, they can take something away from the conference. Topics we will cover, will be: strategic business planning, branding, do-it-yourself public relations, email marketing, blogging, marketing, SEO essentials, taxes and legalities for all business types and much more! It will truly be an event that you don’t want to miss!

What do you hope to achieve with BAC?
My hope is that individuals, businesses and brands will get the resources and tools they need to take their business to the next level. I also hope that everyone will take the opportunity to network with one another. It will be some wonderful people in attendance, and I think that it is important for everyone to meet and learn something from one another to build a stronger community.

As a minority business woman, what would you like to tell other women who like you are working hard to be successful?

As a minority businesswoman, it is sometimes hard to climb up that ladder of business success. My best advice to other minority women would be to never give up and always give it your all. I know that might sound cliche but is true. If I stopped at every point that I received an obstacle or opposition, I wouldn’t be anywhere. But you really have to take the business world into your own hands, and if people won’t give you an opportunity, create your own!

Create what you are seeking. If you are searching for something and you cannot find it, the universe will help you to create it. Take a leap of faith – Kiersten Kindred
